To earn the Lion Cub Scout Rank a scout will need to complete 6 Required Adventures and 2 out of over a dozen Elective adventures.

Lion Cub Scout - Required Adventures

The following 6 Adventures are required for a Lion Scout to receive their Lion badge. You can see all the details in the Lion Scout Handbook.

  1. Get to know members of your den.
  2. Have your Adult Partner or Den Leader read the Scout Law to you. Demonstrate you understand how to be friendly.
  3. Share with your AP, at home or den meeting, a time that you demonstrated the cub scout motto, “Do your best.”
  4. At home with your parent or legal guardian, do activities in the booklet “How to Protect Your Children from Child Abuse: A Parents Guide.”
  1. Identify the 5 food groups.
  2. Practice hand washing. explain when you should wash your hands.
  3. Be active for 20 minutes.
  4. Practice methods that help you rest.
  1. Draw a picture or take a photo of the people you live with.
  2. With your Adult Partner (AP), choose a job that will help your family. Do the job at least once.
  3. Talk with older adult/grandparent about what citizenship means to them.
  4. Participate in a service project.
  1. With your parent or Legal Guardian talk about your family’s faith traditions. draw a picture of this tradition or celebration.
  2. with your family, attend a religious service or other gathering that shows how your family expresses Family & Reverence.
  3. Make a cheerful card or drawing for someone you love. Give it to them.
  1. With permission, watch the Protect Yourself Rules video for lions.
  2. With your AP, demonstrate shout, run, tell, like in the video.
  3. With your AP, demonstrate how to access emergency services.
  4. With your AP, demonstrate how to safely cross a street or walk in a parking lot.
  1. Identify the Cub Scout 6 essentials. Show what you do with each item.
  2. With den, pack, or family, walk outside for at least 20 minutes with your 6 essential items. identify things that are natural & things that are manmade.
  3. Discover what S.A.W. means.
  4. Identify common animals that are found where you live. Separate those into wild & domesticated animals.

Lion Cub Scouts Elective Adventures

The following Adventures are elective adventures and a den will need to complete just 2 of their choice. All of the adventures are broken down in the Lion Scout Handbook.

  1. With your AP, build a structure.
  2. With your den and family, build a structure.
  3. Build something that is designed to be knocked down.
  1. Discover the difference between natural resources & man-made items.
  2. Discover the difference between organic, paper, plastic, metal, and glass waste.
  3. Discover Recycling.
  4. Participate in a conservation project.
  1. Identify the different shapes of the ranks in Cub Scouting & how many of each shape it represents.
  2. Play a game with your AP or Den that is based on counting or numbers.
  3. Organize a group of items based on shape, then based on color, & one other category. count how many different shapes are in each category. After, build anything using only one category.
  1. Discover tech around your home, meeting place, or neighborhood.
  2. Discover ways that digital tech can make your life easier.
  3. Identify an item of digital tech you use at home. Demonstrate to your adult Partner (AP) how you use it safely.
  1. Explore properties of motion.
  2. Explore properties of force.
  3. Use household materials to create a useful object.
  1. With your Adult Partner (AP), learn the rules of fishing safely.
  2. Draw a picture of the type of fish you think lives in the water where you are going fishing.
  3. Go fishing with Adult Partner.
  1. Make & use a “Lion bag” for personal Scouting gear.
  2. Make a personal care checklist.
  3. Put on shoes by yourself. Take them off & put them away.
  1. Learn about the buddy system and how it works in the outdoors.
  2. Before going on an overnight campout, discover what type of weather is expected & what types of clothes you should wear.
  3. Pack up your Cub Scout 6 essentials for the campout.
  4. Attend a council or district cub scout overnight camp or attend an overnight campout with your pack.
  1. With your den or AP, learn about the safety gear you should use while bike riding.
  2. With your den or ap, learn the safety rules to follow when riding a bike.
  3. With your AP or family, ride a bike wearing appropriate safety gear & follow safety rules.
  1. Play a game with your den.
  2. Participate in an obstacle course relay.
  3. Build a box derby & participate in a box derby race.
  1. Explain that choices have consequences.
  2. Perform a Good turn for another person.
  3. Learn the basic rules of a game & play the game.
  1. With your AP, assemble & decorate either a Pinewood Derby car or a Raingutter Regatta.
  2. Learn the rules of the race for the vehicle chosen in Requirement 1.
  3. Before the race, discuss with your AP how you will demonstrate good sportsmanship during the race.
  4. With your AP, participate in a Pinewood Derby or Regatta race.
  1. Discover where the food we eat comes from.
  2. Plant a small garden outside or in a container.
  3. Visit with an individual who can demonstrate different ways to garden (outside, greenhouse, container, etc. and the basic skills needed to garden.
  1. Learn about the swimming safety rules that you need to follow.
  2. Demonstrate how to enter the swimming area properly.
  3. With your AP as your partner, be active in water depths matching your ability for 20 minutes.
  4. Place your face in the water & blow bubbles.
  5. Demonstrate how to exit the swimming area properly.
